GLP-1 Jabs vs. A Holistic Approach: What Women Over 40 Really Need to Know

If you’re a woman over 40, juggling a career, family, and the daily grind, the thought of losing 20, 30 or even 50 pounds can feel like climbing Everest in heels. You’ve tried diets, gym sessions, and saying no to the office biscuit tin, yet the scales seem stuck.
So, when Serena Williams – yes, the world-class athlete – admits that part of her transformation involved a GLP-1 “fat loss jab,” it makes you pause. If Serena, with her trainers, nutritionists, and resources, turned to medication… what hope is there for the rest of us?
Should you throw in the towel and book your own jab appointment? Or is there another way?
Let’s compare two very different women – Serena Williams, and Marie, one of my clients – and see what we can learn.
Serena’s Results vs. Marie’s Results
Serena reported losing 31 lbs in 7 months, which works out at around 4.4 lbs per month. Impressive? Perhaps. But let’s look at Marie.
Marie is a 50-year-old mum of two who once sat in a private hospital car park contemplating weight loss surgery. That very day, she picked up the phone and called me instead. Nine months later, she had lost 57 lbs – an average of 6.3 lbs per month – using a holistic approach of mindset, diet, and exercise.
So, month by month, Marie actually lost more weight than Serena. And no injections required.
What Both Journeys Tell Us
Here’s the part often glossed over when it comes to GLP-1 weight loss jabs:
Serena still had to exercise, specifically lifting weights. Medication alone won’t give you a flat, toned stomach.
Marie also trained 2–3 times a week for 30 minutes and cycled for fun. By the time she hit her 40lb mark, she had a visibly flatter stomach and renewed energy.
In both cases, resistance training was non-negotiable. It wasn’t the jab that built strength, improved posture, or protected joints – it was consistent exercise.
The Risks No One Talks About
GLP-1 medications might work for some people, and maybe the long-term data will eventually confirm their safety. But right now? We don’t know. Side effects exist, and the pharmaceutical industry hasn’t got decades of proof to say otherwise.
For career-driven women over 40, already managing stress, hormones, and endless to-do lists, adding a medication with unknown long-term effects can be a gamble.
The Holistic Route: Small Changes, Big Wins
Marie described her journey as “life-changing but never hard.” Her secret? Tiny steps.
Adjusting her diet to include enough protein.
Making manageable exercise part of her weekly routine.
Tackling her mindset so she could stop self-sabotaging.
Nothing was drastic. Nothing felt impossible. Yet, the results added up to a completely new body and outlook – without medication, without surgery, and without feeling deprived.
So, Which Route Is Right for You?
Ultimately, it comes down to choice. You could go down the GLP-1 route and see how it works out, or you could take the natural route and build a stronger, healthier, and more confident version of yourself through mindset, nutrition, and exercise.
Both paths require effort. The jab won’t magically tone your body, and the holistic route requires patience. The question is – do you want a quick fix with unknowns, or a proven approach that builds habits to last a lifetime?
Final Thoughts
Losing weight after 40 isn’t easy – whether you’re Serena Williams or a busy professional juggling board meetings and family dinners. But as Marie’s story proves, lasting change is possible without needles, extreme diets, or fads.
If you’re serious about tackling your weight once and for all – and want the accountability, structure, and support to do it properly – I’d love to help.
